The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has expressed deep concern over the continued attacks on communities in Plateau State, despite the presence of security personnel in the affected areas.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association, led by its National President, Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, decried what it described as coordinated assaults by armed Fulani militants targeting innocent Berom residents in Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Jos South Local Government Areas.
According to the group, the latest incident occurred on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, when suspected armed militias ambushed travelers returning from mining activities near the Great Commission area along Bokkos Road, en route to Nding in Fan District of Barkin Ladi LGA.
The statement noted that the attackers reportedly opened fire on the victims, killing one Mr. Ayuba Pam of Nding Sesut. Two others, identified as Mr. Alfred Dung and Mr. Nathaniel Bitrus, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.
In a separate attack on the same day, gunmen allegedly ambushed another victim along the Gwol hoss–Byei road in Riyom LGA. The victim, Mr. Christopher Joshua, a father of three from Byei community, was said to have been killed while returning home after the day’s work.
The association described the attacks as a “calculated and sustained campaign of terror” aimed at displacing indigenous communities and taking over their ancestral lands. It lamented that the violence continues; unabated on roads frequently used by farmers, miners, and travelers, despite security agencies being aware of the attackers’ hideouts.
BYM called on security agencies to intensify surveillance and patrols in identified flashpoints, including the Great Commission, Bokkos road, Great Commission, Gashish axis, Rahoss-Rim road, Kwi-Farin Lamba road, Gwolhoss-Jol-Sho road, and Rim-Bachi road, which it said have become dangerous ambush corridors.
While commending security personnel for their efforts, the group urged them to adopt proactive measures aimed at dismantling the armed groups operating within and around Berom communities, rather than relying solely on reactive responses.
The association also appealed to all levels of government to take urgent action to halt the killings and ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with Nigerian law.
BYM further expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and affected communities, assuring them of its continued advocacy for justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property.
“The continuous bloodshed of innocent citizens going about their legitimate livelihoods must not be allowed to continue unchecked,” the statement concluded.
