Our Farms will be cultivated this year- Mutfwang Assures Plateau Citizens

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has assured that his administration is making frantic efforts to ensure that displaced farmers return home to cultivate their farms this year.

Gov. Mutfwang gave the assurance while addressing delegates at the 105 General Church Council (GCC) meeting of the Church of Christ in Nations, (COCIN), at the headquarters of the Church in Jos on Tuesday.

Mutfwang recalled that last year by this time, the state was boiling and many farming communities were ravaged by enemies of the state who launched coordinated attacks on the people, but thanked God that the situation is better now.

“I know that the security challenge has ravaged our people and we are continuing to do the best we can. Since last week we have been holding series of security consultation up till yesterday.

“I want to let you know that the plan to make sure that our people go back to farm this year, we mean business about it, and we are doing all we can, to make sure that those farmlands are well cultivated.” He said.

The governor also call on COCIN not to lose the original vision of “Faith and Farm”, because according to him, the future of the country’s economy depends on agriculture. He tasked the church leaders to continue to teach the people the value of agriculture.

He used the opportunity to announce to the delegates that his administration is partnering with some institutions to go back to Coffee farming and to establish agro allied companies hoping to earn foreign exchange. “The world is waiting for our Coffee” he said.

Gov. Mutfwang pointed that the unity of Plateau State is tied to the unity of the church as COCIN and ECWA churches forms 60 to 70 percent of the church in northern Nigeria. He stressed that no election should be sufficient to divide the church. He solicited continued prayers for his administration to succeed because according to him, while they are planning good the enemy is planning evil against them hence, the need for the prayers.

The President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Amos Mohzo appreciated the dedication and commitment of the governor Mutfwang’s administration to the welfare and prosperity of the state.

He also acknowledged the governor’s swift action in implementing measures to provide aid , security and to facilitate the resettlement of the displaced farming communities.

The Church spiritual leader also extended gratitude to all security operatives in the state for their sacrifices and commitment in quelling terrorists activities in the state, believing that the state is enjoying peace now because of their bravery and resilience in safeguarding the people.

Speaking on the state of the nation, the President regretted that despite the abundance of resources in the country, the citizens still live in hardship and abject poverty.

“The removal of fuel subsidy intended to alleviate burdens, has become a curse, further burdening the populace.

“Uncertainties and lawlessness compound our citizens’ daily struggles, ranging from rampant kidnapping to uncontrollable fuel prices, which inflate the cost of essential commodities. Respect for human life diminishes as societal ills flourish unchecked.

“In this moment of crisis, we must not yield to despair. Instead, we call upon the government to recalibrate its priorities and recommit to the welfare of all citizens.”

Rev. Dr. Mohzo concluded with a call on the delegates and members of the church to remain steadfast in their commitment towards promoting righteousness, justice, mercy and holiness in the face of the prevailing challenges.
