The Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University (KKU), Vom, Plateau State, Prof. Yakubu Yerima Jabil, has described the APIN Centre, Jos, as a strategic institution for advancing international health research, human capacity development and knowledge exchange.
Prof. Jabil stated this when he led a delegation of the university on a courtesy visit to the Head and Principal Investigator of the Centre, Prof. Oche Agbaji in Jos.
The Vice Chancellor expressed appreciation for the Centre’s contributions to health research and human development.
He noted that the APIN Centre had earned national and international recognition through its interventions in HIV care and treatment, tuberculosis control, laboratory systems strengthening and health research.
Prof. Jabil said KKU is interested in establishing areas of collaboration with the Centre, particularly in research, capacity building, structured experiential learning, knowledge sharing and continuous professional development.
According to him, such a partnership would strengthen the university’s research capacity while providing students and staff with opportunities for practical exposure to health-related research and development.
Responding, Prof. Agbaji expressed the Centre’s readiness to partner with Karl Kumm University, noting that the proposed collaboration would contribute to strengthening research and development at the university.
He also commended Prof. Jabil and his management team for the progress recorded by the university within a relatively short period.
The Registrar of KKU, Benjamin Dachomo, said the partnership has the potential to redefine and strengthen the research framework of the faith-based university.
Similarly, the Desk Officer, Advancement and Linkages, Mr. Ewuga Ulu, called for a phased and realistic approach to the proposed partnership.
He proposed structured student attachment programmes and the development of pragmatic annual joint plans guided by high ethical standards.
Other speakers, including Prof. Lokya Nimzing and Dr. Patricia Chollom, welcomed the proposed collaboration, saying it would further consolidate Karl Kumm University’s achievements in research, learning and human capacity development.
The engagement ended with both institutions expressing interest in developing practical areas of collaboration that would promote research, professional development and knowledge transfer.
