FRSC Inaugurates Special Marshalls Unit at Plateau Assembly

The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) has inducted and Inaugurated a Special Marshalls Unit 30 at the Plateau State House of Assembly.

Speaking at the inauguration which was held on Friday at the Plateau State House of Assembly complex in Jos, the Plateau State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corp, Corp Commander Maxwell Lede congratulated the new Special Marshalls and urged them to discharge their roles without fear or favour.

He noted that they have been trained and certified by the FRSC and their responsibility is to ensure safety on roads by supporting the work of the regular Marshalls in the areas of educating and creating awareness on safety of lives and property by road users.

The FRSC boss in the state noted that the Special Marshalls are empowered as volunteers to support the Road Safety Corp to ensure safety motoring environment on Nigeria roads through sponsoring of programs, conducting patrol and any other activities the regular Marshalls undertake.

CC Lede added that having the arm of the Special Marshalls at the Assembly means that the Road Safety has been brought to the door step of the House of Assembly, assuring that they will have an interface with leadership of the Assembly to address incidences of road crashes not only on the Plateau but in Nigeria as a whole.

He appreciated the cordial relationship he is enjoying with stakeholders on the Plateau since assumption of office, noting that the support and partnership he enjoys has elevated the Road Safety to Household name on the Plateau.

In a remark, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan lauded the professional conduct of some officers of the Road Safety on the Plateau as he recounted some of his encounter with them and their quick response to accidents on the road.

He appealed for training of their drivers on rules of the road, noting that he will liaise with management to organize a workshop for the training of their drivers including the lawmakers because sometimes they also drive themselves.

While congratulating the newly inducted Special Marshalls, he assured the Sector Commander that the Assembly will provide a level playing ground for them to operate.

Plateau State Coordinator of Special Marshalls, Mr. Edward Baba welcome the new members as he appreciated God that a unit has been established in the State Assembly, believing that their activities within that axis shall be taking care of.

According to the FRSC Sector Command Spokesman, Peter Longsan, 30 newly Special Marshalls were inducted yesterday at the newly established Special Marshalls Unit 30 in addition to the existing Special Marshalls at the Assembly.

He added that a unit was established at the Assembly because the number of the Special Marshalls at the State Assembly has even exceeded the required number of Special Marshalls to form a unit which is a minimum of 25.

High point of the event was oath taking by the Special Marshalls as administered on them by Barrister Joshua Davou Nyam, ceremonial decorations of the Special Marshalls and inauguration of new Excos for the unit.
