The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) has witnessed a major leadership transition at the Karl Kumm University (KKU), Vom, as the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Nanven Audu Gambo, formally introduced the newly appointed Vice Chancellor to delegates at the ongoing 109th General Church Council (GCC) in Jos, Plateau State.

The week-long Council meeting, which commenced on Monday at the COCIN Headquarters Compound Church, is expected to conclude with the election of a new COCIN Vice President and General Secretary.

Presiding over the Council meeting, COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Musa Mohzo, led the church through proceedings that featured tributes, prayers, and formal presentation of the university’s new leadership.

Outgoing VC Appreciates Church

In his farewell remarks, Professor Gambo expressed deep appreciation to God and to the church for the opportunity to serve as pioneer Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University. He described the institution as one that not only benefited from his service but also contributed immensely to his personal and professional growth.

Reflecting on his tenure, the outgoing Vice Chancellor thanked the church for its support throughout his administration and acknowledged God’s grace in helping him complete his assignment successfully.

Professor Gambo thereafter introduced his successor, Professor Yakubu Yerima Jabil, to the Council, noting that the new Vice Chancellor had officially assumed office. He expressed confidence in the new appointee, describing him as someone already familiar with the workings of the institution, having served for the past two years as Director of Academic Planning at the university.

Former Presidents Laud Outgoing VC

Two former Presidents of Church of Christ in Nations took turns to commend the outgoing Vice Chancellor and to welcome the new Vice Chancellor.

Rev. Prof. Pandang Yamsat praised Professor Gambo for his contributions to the growth and integrity of Karl Kumm University, particularly applauding the policy of screening intending students for drug use before admission. He described the initiative as courageous and necessary for preserving the moral and academic reputation of the institution.

Rev. Prof. Yamsat expressed sadness over the departure of the outgoing Vice Chancellor, noting that his wealth of experience would be missed, though he acknowledged that institutional regulations must be respected. He urged the incoming Vice Chancellor to sustain and improve on the foundation already laid.

Also speaking, Rev. Prof. Soja Bewarang offered prayers for both the outgoing and incoming Vice Chancellors, asking God to guide Professor Gambo in the next phase of his life and ministry while granting Professor Jabil wisdom, strength, and grace for the task ahead.

New Vice Chancellor Speaks

Responding after his introduction, Professor Yakubu Yerima Jabil described his appointment as a rare privilege and thanked God and the Church for entrusting him with the leadership of the university.
He commended the church for establishing a strong foundation for Karl Kumm University and pledged commitment to advancing the vision of the institution.

The new Vice Chancellor expressed confidence that God would grant him the wisdom and grace needed to succeed in office.

VP Charges Delegates on Godly Living

In a separate exhortation during the GCC session, COCIN Vice President, Rev. Assoc. Prof. Timothy Nwan, urged delegates to embrace contentment and avoid worldly distractions and greed.
Drawing from 1 Timothy 6:6–10, he warned against the dangers of the love of money and the growing culture of instant gratification, stressing that unchecked material pursuit often destroys integrity and weakens Christian values.
Rev. Assoc. Prof. Nwan also referenced 2 Corinthians 4:18, encouraging believers to focus on eternal realities rather than temporary earthly possessions.
Further citing 1 Corinthians 6:10, he cautioned that greed and covetousness remain obstacles to godly living and can hinder believers from inheriting the Kingdom of God. He therefore called on Christians to maintain holy living and remain steadfast in faith despite worldly pressures.
