Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has congratulated Mrs. Dorcas Gwani of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) on her election as the new Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council.
Governor Mutfwang, in a congratulatory message issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, on Tuesday, described Gwani’s emergence as a reflection of the confidence her colleagues have in her leadership qualities, professional competence, integrity and years of experience in journalism.
The Governor said Gwani’s election as the second female Chairperson of the Correspondents’ Chapel in several years represents a significant milestone for women in journalism and media leadership.
He noted that the development further underscores the growing recognition of the invaluable contributions of women to the journalism profession and their increasing participation in leadership positions within the media.
Mutfwang expressed confidence that the new Chairperson would bring her wealth of experience, knowledge and commitment to bear on her new responsibilities.
He urged her to provide purposeful and inclusive leadership that would advance the interests and welfare of members of the Correspondents’ Chapel.
According to the Governor, her tenure should also strengthen professionalism, ethical journalism, responsible reportage and constructive engagement among media practitioners and stakeholders.
Mutfwang described the media as a critical pillar of democracy and an indispensable partner in the pursuit of peace, good governance and sustainable development.
He urged Gwani to use her position to strengthen unity and professional solidarity among members of the Chapel while upholding the integrity and credibility of the journalism profession and the NUJ.
The Governor also charged the new leadership to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the media industry and the overall development of Plateau State.
He wished Gwani and the newly elected executive a successful, impactful and rewarding tenure in office.
Mutfwang assured the new leadership of his administration’s continued recognition of and respect for the important role of the media in promoting accountability, development and the collective aspirations of the people of Plateau State.
